FLUID-LINE FITTINGS

Aircraft Tube and Hose Fittings

General aircraft fluid-line fitting types and their controlled installation needs.

Simplified cross-section examples of beaded, flared, flareless and swaged tube connections
Connection-family examples only. Geometry, material, pressure rating, preparation and torque remain system-specific.

Key reference points

  • Fitting type must match the system and tube material.
  • Flared and flareless ends require controlled preparation.
  • Permanent joining systems need approved equipment and processes.

Organised training notes

1Serviceable mechanical connections

These related fitting families use a formed tube or hose end and approved mechanical hardware.

  1. 1.1 Bead and clampA formed bead, compatible hose and approved clamps may be used in designated low- or medium-pressure applications.
  2. 1.2 Flared fittingA controlled flare seats against the fitting cone; angle, finish, wall condition and alignment influence sealing.
  3. 1.3 Flareless fittingA sleeve or ferrule forms onto the tube through a specified preset process and then receives visual and dimensional inspection.

2Permanent and special connections

These connections require a manufacturer-approved system, dedicated equipment and qualified process control.

  1. 2.1 Permanent swaged fittingApproved swaged systems join or repair lines where routine disconnection is not required.
  2. 2.2 Special joining systemCryogenic or other manufacturer-specific fittings require the exact approved parts, equipment, training and inspection.
