Corrosion Removal and Restoration
A general corrosion-removal sequence for aircraft metallic structure.

1Identify the material and corrosion
Confirm the base material, coating and apparent corrosion form before selecting tools or chemicals.
2Remove contamination
Use approved cleaning materials so staining, deposits and finish breakdown do not hide the damaged surface.
3Remove corrosion carefully
Use only the specified abrasive, scraper, rotary tool or chemical process. Avoid overheating, contamination and unnecessary material loss.
4Inspect and measure
Confirm that corrosion is removed, measure the reworked area and compare remaining section and geometry with approved limits.
5Restore corrosion protection
Apply the required conversion coating, plating, primer, sealant and finish after the rework passes inspection.
